Every week, I share newsworthy articles that have caught my attention over the past week.
YouTube is testing AI Overviews in its search results
YouTube is testing a new feature called AI Overviews, designed to help users find relevant video content more easily. Similar to Google’s AI Overviews in Search, it displays curated video segments at the top of search results, letting users access key information without watching full videos. The trial is currently limited to a small group of YouTube Premium subscribers in the U.S., focusing on English-language searches related to shopping and travel. Users can give feedback on the summaries with thumbs-up or thumbs-down ratings to help improve the feature.

How LLMs Interpret Content: How To Structure Information For AI Search
To optimise content for AI-driven search, content marketers should prioritise clear writing structures over technical markup. Using strong headings, logical flow, concise paragraphs, and bullet points helps large language models (LLMs) accurately interpret information. Consistency in format and terminology is essential, and key insights should appear early in the text. By thinking of web pages as source material for AI rather than just for human readers, marketers can improve their visibility in AI summaries and search results.

Google Testing AI Mode In Wild; Adds Product/Place Cards, History Tab & More
Google is expanding access to its AI Mode in Search, testing it live with a small group of U.S. users — no opt-in required. The waitlist is now open to all U.S. users 18+, and new features like product/place cards and a history tab have been added. With testing underway and Google I/O around the corner, a full rollout could be just around the corner. Once refined, I strongly suspect that AI Mode is shaping up to be the future of the Google SERPs.

Google’s Updated Raters Guidelines Refine Concept Of Low Quality
Google just gave its Search Quality Evaluator Guidelines a refresh — and it’s all about tackling low-quality, AI-generated, and spammy content. They’ve officially defined “Generative AI” and made it clear: mass-produced, low-value AI content is a no-go, especially if it’s generic or obviously machine-written (like those awkward “As a language model…” phrases).
They’re also cracking down on spam tactics like using expired domains to game rankings or sneaking third-party content onto reputable sites to ride their SEO coattails. Plus, human raters now have to turn off ad blockers so they see what real users do — ads and all.
Bottom line? Google’s tightening the rules to reward genuinely useful, original content and filter out the AI fluff and SEO hacks.
